The panel is where old Coast homes show their age

Gulfport and Biloxi grew fast in the 50s through the 80s, and thousands of those homes still run their original electrical service: 100-amp panels sized for an era before central air ran all summer, before every counter held an appliance, before anyone plugged in a car. Add coastal reality — salt air corroding lugs and bus bars a decade ahead of inland schedules — and the panel is usually the most tired component in an older Coast home.

Some of those panels are merely undersized. Others — Federal Pacific and Zinsco among them — carry documented failure histories serious enough that inspectors flag them on sight and insurers price around them. Knowing which you have is worth one look from a licensed electrician.

What an upgrade actually buys you

Capacity, first: room for the EV charger, the workshop, the pool equipment, the addition — with a load calculation proving it on paper instead of hoping. Safety, second: modern breakers that trip when they're supposed to, AFCI and GFCI protection where today's code requires it, and terminations torqued to spec on a bus that isn't pitted with corrosion.

And paperwork, honestly: a permitted, inspected panel with documentation answers the questions insurers and home inspectors on the Coast now ask as a matter of routine.

How the day runs

We coordinate the utility disconnect, swap the panel, re-terminate and label every circuit properly — the mystery-breaker era of your home ends here — and walk the inspector through it. Power is typically off for six to eight hours, restored the same day. You end the day with a labeled panel, a permit record, and a photo set of the finished work for your records.

Put your hand on the panel door on a heavy-laundry day. It should feel like furniture, not like a toaster. Warm means resistance, and resistance means it's time to call.
